The One With the

Oven Mitt Unwrap

“For the past few years, my aunt has shown up to Christmas Eve Dinner with a triple-wrapped-box, oven mitts, a Santa hat and a pair of dice. (And I am so glad she did!) Sure, it may be a strange combo, but these items act as the ingredients of a very fun game! Let me just say that unwrapping a present while wearing a pair of oven mitts (all while in a mad rush) is NOT easy. It is absolute chaos, but keeps us laughing the entire time until the winner finally tears the box open. Comedic Christmases always take the cake!”

The One With the

15 lb. Box

“Growing up, my dad has always done his best to create a memorable Christmas for my brother and me. My most memorable Christmas was a few years back. My dad dressed up as Santa Clause (beard and all!) and woke up my brother and me to open the gifts under the tree. Our family was also with us, so we went around and woke everyone up. We all gathered around the tree as Santa gave out gifts and took pictures with everyone. One of my gifts was a huge box that weighed about 15 pounds. Inside was a pack of snow salt and an envelope. My parents got me driving lessons, but decided that an envelope was not an exciting way to present the gift…so I got some snow!”

The One With the

Left-Right Christmas Game

“Every year we host a big Christmas party for my step-dad’s family, and we always do some kind of White Elephant gift exchange, but a relatively new tradition we’ve adopted is the Left-Right Christmas game. Here’s how it works: First, each person brings a gift to contribute to the game. We all sit in a circle while someone reads a Christmas story. Each time you hear the word ‘left’ or ‘right,’ you have to pass the gift accordingly. Needless to say, with a group of 20+ adults and kids, there’s always a bit of chaos…but it’s a lot!”

The One With the

Glitzy Night In

“New Year’s Eve is a special holiday for my closest friends. We’re going on our ninth year celebrating together, and we love to reminisce on one of our favorite nights. We’re all homebodies, but we love to get festive. We dress up from head to toe in velvet and sparkles, procure party poppers, and kick off the new year covered in confetti (all in a friend’s apartment!). This does, however, mean we usually end up starting the year vacuuming – but the photos are worth it!”

The One With the

Two Traditions

“A Christmas tradition in my family revolves around two special gifts on Christmas Eve. Every year, my mom gets my little brother and me 1) A new pair of Christmas PJs, and 2) A special, new ornament to add to the tree. Every year when we are decorating the tree, it’s fun to look back and see all the ornaments we have accumulated over the years. My mom always tries to pick ornaments that relate to something we are really into at the time (So if you look at our tree, you’ll see everything from Disney princesses to Yoda and even Starbucks cups!).”

The One With the

Game Show

“My favorite Christmas memory is the year we started our Jeopardy tradition. My dad created his own Jeopardy board for the night and was going to be our ‘Alex Trebek.’ At the time, we weren’t sure how fun it would be for our guests, or if anyone would even be into it! Well, we were happily surprised. Everyone put their game faces on, and the heckling – of other teams and, occasionally, ‘Alex Trebek’s’ question point values – began. From then on, Jeopardy has been demanded by our guests every Christmas Eve.”

The One With the

Special View

“My favorite holiday has to be New Year’s Eve. Every New Year’s Eve, my family and closest friends get together (15 couples!) and go to a hotel party. We all stay there for the night, have a great time together, and dance the night away. I always wear amazing little black dresses (like the Nadia Midi) and my favorite red lipstick. My family has been doing this for the past 12 years, and we look forward to this occasion every single year!”

The One With the

Change of Heart

If you know me, you know I’m not the world’s biggest Christmas elf, but last year this grinch’s heart grew three sizes. December 2017 in the world of Maggy London was a nonstop parade of Christmas content – from Holidays Made Easy with Alejandra Ramos, to 7 Days of Dresses with Maryam Shah, to Desk-to-Dinner Holiday Hacks with Modern Mrs. – it seemed like I was out of the office two or three times every week directing photoshoots, producing videos, and exploring Christmastime in the city. And wouldn’t you know, by the time our team exchanged Secret Santa gifts and said our goodbyes before going our separate ways for the holidays, I was fully feeling the spirit of the season.
